What Samsung announced Aug. 27
At Galaxy Event August 2026, Samsung introduced the Fan Edition as “the latest flagship experience, focused on what matters most” — corporate for: we kept the 6.7-inch phone and swapped the processor and software. Official product page: Samsung Galaxy S26 FE (U.S.). Specs wrap: SamMobile on S26 FE hardware. Price read: 9to5Google on the $699 sheet.
U.S. colors are Blueberry, Graphite, and Pistachio. Storage is 128GB ($699.99) and 256GB ($799.99). A 512GB SKU exists in the U.K. (£949) and eurozone (€1,099) — not the U.S. at launch. The 45W brick is still sold separately. Samsung quotes about 69% charge in ~30 minutes with that adapter, and up to 29 hours of video playback on the 4,900mAh cell.

Chip, One UI 9, and camera software
Three things actually moved.
1. Exynos 2500 on 3nm. Last year’s FE used Exynos 2400. This year’s uses the 2500 — the same process-node story Samsung already sold on the main S26 family. 8GB of RAM did not come along for the ride. If on-device Galaxy AI is the pitch, 8GB is the limiter that was already awkward in 2025 and is still here because memory wafers are the expensive part of 2026. 2. One UI 9 / Android 17 on day one. The S26, S26+, and S26 Ultra shipped earlier this year on last winter’s software. The FE is the first S26-series phone that boots One UI 9. Samsung’s list: a more customizable Now Brief, Now Nudge that can tap selected third-party apps, Circle to Search that can tag more than one object in a frame, and six months of Google AI Pro. 3. Video features borrowed from pricier Galaxies. My FanCam (subject tracking, originally on the Z Fold 8 / Flip 8 generation) and Super Steady with Horizontal Lock (horizon-locked video from the original S26 trio) land on the FE. Photo Assist still does natural-language edits. The sensors behind those modes are last year’s 50/12/8 trio — software is doing the marketing.

Why $699.99 is the story
Fifty dollars is small until you notice what it buys: almost nothing on the spec table. The S25 FE already sells as low as ~$500 through some carriers and retailers, per 9to5Google’s Aug. 27 recap. Paying $699.99 for a 128GB S26 FE means you are buying:
- A new warranty and seven years counted from 2026, not 2025
- One UI 9 without waiting on the S25 FE’s update train
- A 3nm SoC that should sip a bit less and run a bit cooler — unproven until independent thermals land
- Colors and a camera-bar that match the rest of the S26 family

Samsung’s own U.S. compare module puts three phones on one row:

The more useful third column is the base Galaxy S26, which launched at $899.99 for 256GB (Samsung dropped 128GB on the flagship this cycle). Street promotions in August have shown the S26 near $749 with no trade-in. That collapses the FE’s value story: a discounted S26 is a 256GB flagship for roughly the FE’s 256GB list ($799), with the main-line cameras and chip instead of a 2025 camera island.
Screen size is the FE’s remaining brag. Base S26 is a 6.3-inch phone. The FE is 6.7 inches — bigger than the cheap flagship, smaller money, older cameras. If you hate small phones and refuse Ultra money, that is the only clean win on the comparison grid.
Who should buy which
- Keep the S25 FE if it still takes a charge and you can wait for One UI 9 on that device. Galaxy S26 FE vs S25 FE is a software and warranty purchase, not a camera purchase.
- Buy S26 FE at $699 only if you are coming from S23 / S24 FE / A-series, you want 6.7 inches, and you will not hunt last year’s FE at $500.

- A57 at $549 if you need a 6.7-inch Samsung and do not care about 3x optical zoom, IP68 as a selling point, or seven years of the S-series software cadence.

Buy checklist before Sept. 4
- Price-match the S25 FE in your carrier’s leftover bin before you “upgrade” $50 for a reprint.
- If you need 512GB, you are not shopping the U.S. FE — look at S26 / S26+ configs or import risk.
- Budget a 45W PPS charger; the box still assumes you own last year’s brick.
- Confirm eSIM vs physical SIM on your carrier. New Galaxies are eSIM-friendly; the plastic card is not the account — what an eSIM actually is.
- If you live on Wi-Fi 7 mesh already, this phone will not use it. It is Wi-Fi 6E.
